1. COUNTRY REPORTS - see
separate page
2. EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Education Committee has been active in organising an examination
protocol that could be accepted in any new country trying
to have Denturists recognised. IFD has a minimum suggested
competency. Each country is free to exceed that competency.
Recommendations for revision of the Baseline Competencies
are welcomed by the Education Committee.
Australia has implemented a new National Training Package.
Up until July this year Sydney was the only college that had
Denturist Training. In July Melbourne started an Advanced
Diploma in Dental Prosthetics and Brisbane will enrol their
first students in the Advanced Diploma in February. The new
Degree in Dental Technology has started on the Gold Coast
in Queensland in February but it will take three years for
the first students to enrol in the Master program in Dental
Prosthetics.
Otago University in New Zealand has a degree in Dental technology.
The Denturist program is a post graduate diploma in clinical
dental technology. New Zealand and Australia have a mutual
recognition agreement and are working out common methods of
recognition and examination of applicants applying to be registered
in the two countries from overseas countries that have Denturists
and Technician legislations. In both countries Denturists
need to be qualified Dental Technicians prior to undertaking
training as a Denturist.
3. LEONARDO DA VINCI PROJECT - PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.
A sub-committee of the European Committee is to be set up
to develop Denturism guidelines to submit to FEPPD. The Education
Committee will act as a mentor to the sub-committee. The sub-committee
will also consider accreditation as it is linked to education.
